Male Athletes & Eating Disorders
In a recently released report the sports medicine doctor James L. Glazer states male athletes can develop unhealthy eating habits when they try to gain advantage by a leaner physique. These unhealthy eating habits can be noticed in everyday recreational athletes.
Lately the awareness for eating disorders is increased. There has been deaths among wrestlers that has raised discussion on this topic. Glazer tells he more often sees problematic eating among men in sports such as cycling and skiing. The most notable thing is that this behaviour is often seen at the recreational level.
The problems often start when a recreational athlete loses a few kilos as a result of training. He notices getting faster and getting better results. This can lead to obsession to lose more weight that would be healthy.
