Piracetam and Sports

Piracetam is a nootropic drug used medically for the treatment of dementias. It effects brain and increases cognitive functions such as memory and learning. Piracetam can be obtained in the USA with or without a physician’s prescription.

What is interesting is the effects of using this drug in sports. Some of the drugs that are designed to have an effect on brain function, such as Modafinil, are banned by many sports authorities.

“In the year 2003, American sprinter Kelli Whit’s doping test showed traces of Modafinil after winning the world championship both in 100 and 200 meter sprints. At the same year several other athletes were found to have the drug in their urine.”

The attitude towards using for example Piracetam powder as an sport supplement is not clearly positive. Many authorities are stating supplements like this give a bad name for the world of sports. Still this product is sold by many online stores.

Does e.g. Piracetam have effect on the sport performance is another guestion. Are the companies just making money out of the athletes desperately looking for an extra boost? We will take a closer look on the advantages of Piracetam in the following posts. Stay tuned!
